Bombay Dyeing (BD) is one of India's largest textile
companies. It is famous for its bed linens and covers.
BD is also India's largest manufacturer of DMT, which is
used in manufacture of polyester. The company needs to go in
for modernisation and expansion to maintain its position in
the textiles market in India. Although BD's net profits have
declined by 45 percent to Rs7.2 crore during Oct-Dec 2004, it
is likely to perform better owing to the increased
opportunities in the textile market.
The company's real estate in Mumbai is estimated to be
worth hundreds of crore.
For Apr-Dec 2004, BD posted a net profit of Rs24 crore on
sales of Rs825 crore.

A weekend fashion show inspired by London Fashion Week led to
the unexpected booking of six weddings and the purchase of two
wedding dresses.
The Esslemont and Macintosh show at the Hilton Treetops
Hotel in Aberdeen has been hailed a resounding success by John
McLaughlin, who is the hotel's general manager.
About 210 people braved the weather to see the Aberdeen
department store launch its new range of bridal and occasional
wear by Paul Costelloe, Episode and Jesire during three shows.
Visitors were treated to bubbly and canapes by show
sponsors Moet & Chandon, the Champagne house, while they
watched local models, including Miss Scotland Nicola Jolly,
parade the catwalk in a marquee erected for the occasion.
"It was a great success," said Mr McLaughlin.
"We got confirmation from Esslemont and Macintosh that
they had two brides who bought their wedding dresses at
Esslemont and Macintosh that day, and we confirmed six
weddings we weren't expecting, from the show." The event
was such a success that the companies are now considering
hosting further shows for graduations and Christmas
