eyes investment in Indian IT, textiles sectors |
China has identified sectors like
IT, biotechnology, manufacturing and textiles to invest in India as part
of its new investment policy of encouraging domestic entrepreneurs to
move overseas.
In a strategic shift in the investment policy, China now encourages
domestic entrepreneurs to move overseas for putting in their surplus
funds for capital formation, chief of China's Shandong Province Xu Maobo
said.
Speaking at a meeting organised by ASSOCHAM, Maobo, who is leading
15-member business delegation to India said: "China has reversed
its earlier investment policy which encouraged foreign direct
investments (FDI) into China, as it has already attracted enough
overseas investments."
In order to help Chinese companies go transnational, he said the
Government has framed several incentives to protect overseas
investments.
The Chinese have identified areas like IT, biotechnology, manufacturing,
textiles, petroleum and power, including hydro and non-renewable energy
sources for investment in India.
Maobo invited India Inc to explore business opportunities in the
identified sectors in the Shandong Province.
He also offered Chinese expertise for joint collaboration in the fields
of software development and business process outsourcing (BPO), among
others.
Electronic and IT industry are the priority sectors of the government as
the country lagged behind in them from countries like India, he said
adding China was committed to building up an electronic information city
in the next few years and invited Indians to invest there.

| 14、Textile
services industry set to gain in post-quota regime |
Apart from the textile industry
itself, the dismantling of the quota regime, post-December 31, ’04 is
also expected to give a boost to the textile services industry in India,
which is currently pegged at Rs 100 crore.
With increasing stress on quality and certifications specially by
international buyers, textile services like testing, consultancy on
certifications, pre-packaging inspections and market research which
earlier were not considered important has suddenly caught the fancy of
textile players in India.
While the big textile players like Arvind Mills and Ashima have put in
place their own testing and research facilities the small and medium
enterprises (SMEs), which produce more than 90% of garments in India,
are taking help of the 15-odd independent inspection agencies operating
in the country.
The services companies also act as a third party agency between the
small foreign buyers who do not have their own testing facilities in
India and the sellers. “The spurt in demand for these services is
expected to double the size of the textile service industry in less than
12 months post MFA to Rs 200 crore,” GS Nadiger, director, total
quality management, textile committee, under the ministry of textiles,
told ET.
He added that the increase will still be far below the potential of the
industry which is between Rs 4,000 and Rs 5,000 crore.
